Glyptotheque, a prominent art institution located in Zagreb, Croatia, embarked on a unique exploration, delving into the intriguing connection between smoking, art, and the concept of taboo.
The resulting exhibition, set up in 2012, examines the role of smoking in Croatia's artistic and popular culture spanning the last 150 years.
Playing with the concept of taboo, we conceived an unconventional approach—an anti-exhibition. This display intentionally conceals the exhibits, even from the museum itself. We created an entirely novel space devoid of discernible walls, floors, or ceilings, featuring only cylindrical display rooms.
Softly illuminated from within, these structures invite visitors to enter and examine them more closely. However, it is only upon stepping inside that the objects associated with taboo are unveiled.
