According to the new concept and design that we developed in cooperation with the Zagreb-based communication and branding agency Señor, the Centar Kaptol becomes a public space, a place of everyday meetings of the city’s inhabitants, especially those from its northern part.
We found inspiration for the design in old Zagreb, when spontaneous gatherings in public spaces like internal courtyards, squares, and streets were a daily occurrence. With a variety of contents thematically divided between floors, the new Centar Kaptol responds to the everyday needs of Zagreb’s inhabitants, ranging from daily tasks and shopping to socialising and having fun.
The fashion promenade on the ground floor is designed as a continuation of the street - the wide corridor is paved with street-coloured flooring, and the walls are treated with rough plaster, evoking Zagreb’s facades. The promenade is crisscrossed with green islands, resting and waiting areas. The fashion street continues into the central square, where the walls are covered with green surfaces revealed behind wrought iron fences, stylised letters “C” and “K”.
The day-to-day area of the first floor follows the visual language of the ground floor. The fashion content extends into everyday activities, including visits to the grocery store, drugstore, pharmacy, florist, etc. The food court on the second floor complements the cinema, and darker colours have replaced the brightness of the lower levels to give the space a more shaded atmosphere for night-time outings. Here, you can enjoy an after-work drink, watch a film, hang out, and relax in a dimly lit atmosphere after completing your daily errands.
Kaptol Dvor is a sort of extension of the food court. The large inner square area is suitable for both daily rest and evening gatherings, evoking the idea of an inner courtyard as a meeting place for neighbors and friends. The business area on the third floor reflects the design and colours of the ground and first floors. The furniture is suitable for short business meetings or calls, and clear information directs visitors toward the business premises on this floor.
