Brigada at Design week
At the third Zagreb Design Week, the largest event in Croatia dedicated to design, we created in collaboration with the event’s organizers the lay-out design of the segment of the program which took place in Hauba. In a space of almost 2000 square meters we designed a system for showcasing 4 programs: Market – sales booths, Expo – product displays, Universities –student project displays, Nordic House –Nordic design exhibition; a lecture stage; and a sign post, all using basic natural materials and optimizing execution within a very tight budget.
OSB boards, lumber planks, and palettes were used for the construction of all the exhibition elements in order to meet the requirements of the set program and make simple transformations possible. The postaments easily adjust to various usages: for displaying objects, hanging posters, seating, as storage containers, etc. The stands are transformed from sales booths to, for example, dressing rooms, with simple interventions.
Conceptually different from the rest of the design is the Nordic House, the design exhibition of this year’s partner region. Inspired by the minimalism of Nordic design, white canvases were used and thrown over hanging lumber planks in order to partition the area into four spaces and create rooves resembling those found in these northern European countries.
The spatial organization, design, optimization of materials used and execution techniques resulted in a systematically organized and visually striking space, proving that budgets don’t necessarily have to limit creativity or consistency in an executed design.
